Donated Fabric--a Conundrum!

Do you have family or friends or neighbors who always think of you? You know who I mean, those thoughtful people that give you every scrap of every fabric they no longer need. I have received car-loads over the years. Mostly I get a box or two at a time, maybe a paper lunchbag with 20 or so cut pieces, from someone dear who just can't bare to throw fabric away.
It's a conundrum: say 'yes' to yards & yards of unusable fabric, or say thankyouverymuch, but no thanks?

Yes. I say "Yes!" to every offer of fabric. I'm so thankful they thought of me. I enjoy opening it all up like its Christmas morning. And I look through every bit in every box, because you just never know what you'll find crumpled in the bottom. Under some particularly stinky pre-quilted satin, I found 3+ yards of solid black 100% cotton. Not bad!
I've been given some wondrous fabrics! I've gotten 1930's flour sack material (actual flour sack!!) from a high school friend of my Mom's, 1940's floral kitchen curtain material from a great aunt (the curtains that hung below the sink in her farm kitchen), hand-me-down boy's flannel shirts from a sister-in-law (worn by my son too), jeans, silk curtains, piles of pieces, unfinished blocks and loads of scraps.
I've also received yards and yards of double-knit polyester, upholstery fabrics, sheer curtains, knits, blends, upholstery fabrics and more upholstery fabrics!
Another donation was 2 large boxes of upholstery fabrics. Tucked in-between I found a plastic bag of what looked like scraps of 1970's clothing--unusable for quilts I thought, until I pulled it all out and found blocks and blocks of an old crazy quilt!
In a box of mostly polyester blends I discovered scraps of brights--the fabrics/colors of a classic Amish quilt. In that same load of hand-me-downs I received a stack of 4" squares in mostly fall colors.

Anything I can't use is not wasted. I donate it all to charities that accept fabric. {You can donate too at donatestuff.com by scheduling a pick-up or receive bags to drop off.}.

Bless their hearts, those thoughtful people who donate all their fabric to me!  I will always say 'yes' to them! How about you?
