Happy May! Yesterday was in the 70's here and on & off raining. Today was in the 50's, windy and chilly. The woods are greening up and my gardens are spouting all over--just a beautiful spring day!
I finished my PLAY quilt, Still, and submitted it for Patty's Parade that starts tomorrow--I can't wait to see all the improvs in the parade!

I quilted horizontal lines to emphasize the Still-ness, with variegated pink thread. I like the calmness of it. The lines are farther apart at the top than the bottom.
The binding was supposed to be the light pink fabric--I had pictured it from the time I decided on the final layout of the quilt and was sure it would be the perfect finishing. I auditioned it before cutting strips and it looked BLAH. I am so glad I did not just start cutting--it added nothing, and the gray fabrics did nothing either. The pink/bamboo holds it together nicely, I think.
Now that this is done, its time to organize my fabrics! I made a mess of them with The Splendid Sampler, and when I was gifted all the fabric from my Aunt Lil and my SIL, I just added that to my piles! I need a day or two to seriously clean up, organize fabrics by color again, and consider buying more totes to store it all in.
All my scraps (that I thought would be gone once I finished The Splendid Sampler) are in a kitchen garbage bag that I spill out when working on a new paper-pieced string quilt. There was so much leftover that I took the time to cut strips out of it all, dug out a picture of a quilt I have wanted to make for years, and just started sewing strips together. As my SIL said recently, "Sometimes you just want to sew--to hear the machine running and not have to think out every stitch." A strip quilt is good for this.
I'm being cagey about the quilt because I'm considering gifting it to a family member and I'd like for them to be surprised when they get it. Once they get it, I'll post all my pics and my process.
Don't forget to look for the PLAY improv parade at Elm Street Quilts tomorrow!
