Once we reached Block 80, I decided it was time to lay out all the blocks & organize them--let's see what I've got! And quickly I saw that my scrappy blocks were aligning themselves into groups of color and would not play well with each other! What to do...
Well, if they wouldn't play, then I would separate them into smaller groups and have more Splendid Samplers--wall-hangings. So I made piles and tried them out together and fussed over which went with what group and put some here and some there and moved some around... and the afternoon flew by organizing my blocks.
They made up 5 groups based on color or tone, and an "Oddball" pile of weird color combinations and individual blocks that just didn't look good with the others. Here's a taste of each group.

1 - This group tends toward lavenders and mid-tones (pics 1, 3, 5, 6 & 8 all have the same solid lavender fabric, but the lighting made it look different in each pic. The true color is closest to pic 3).
2 - These are the green group--or look best surrounded by green!
3 - Reds and oranges
4 - These are from the dark tones and blues group
5 - Pastels!
6 - Oddballs and weirdos... These will end up in the scrap pile most likely. They're too small to make pillows and/or too ugly to make hot-pads! These are the blocks that keep you humble while still being Splendid!
Tomorrow is the release of block #95 and then just 5 more to the end. I'm looking forward to it. Finishing The Splendid Sampler will be quite an accomplishment for me, but I also will miss the anticipation of 2 blocks a week! How will I ever keep my interest up for BOMs--just 1 block every 30 days instead of 8 or 9 blocks?
I have to admit, this project did get me interested in BOMs and other quilt-alongs, which I've never done before the Splendid Sampler. This year I'm joining Pat Sloan on her Children's Library BOM, and SimpleSimonandCo.'s Modern Quilt-Along, and I'm watching a couple others to see if I want to join them, too. Of course I've taken up the APQ UFO Challenge for the year so I will have projects in-between. But I don't think any of them will be quite so fun as my Splendid Adventure!
