Just got back from work and it is raining. I intended to get some seeds planted in my veg garden today and weed the flower beds before it started, but it looks like I'll have to stay inside! Too bad I have a stack of block pieces that need sewing! *wink wink*
Quilting Thread for my Splendid Samplers
I won in the Improv PLAY! giveaways & I received it recently--so exciting! A pack of Aurifil's Carolyn Friedlander thread and 2 mini charm packs from AMB. WooHoo!
I held off quilting my Splendid Samplers (5 small ones) because I looked over the thread packs in the giveaway and thought the Carolyn Friedlander pack had the perfect colors to quilt at least 2 of my quilts (orange and green), and though I didn't think I'd win, I did request her pack if it happened. I know I've said it, but its so exciting!
Three of my Splendid Samplers have been draped over my loveseat for several weeks now, sandwiched & basted, waiting for me to get to them. Other projects, my son's senior year wrap-up and graduation, my summer job at my local greenhouse & nursery, and my own yard-work have all taken priority over them, though. ~Sigh~ But I now have reason to start one... which to choose? I'm thinking the red/orange will be the one, but I have fallen in love with how the green quilt looks with the sashing/border I added and may dive into that first. We'll all know soon!

The 350 Blocks Project
I joined Prairie Moon Quilts' The 350 Block Project this week. We count how many blocks we finish in each month and let Shelly know at the end of that month. No sending, no contest, no hassle, just counting. I like it! I'm hoping it keeps me moving along on projects. And I'd like to see that big number at the end of the year!
Summer Leaves
I started a new project this past week that was inspired by books I got from the library. I was immersing myself in improvisational/modern quilting techniques and images to help me with the Improv PLAY! project. I think I had 8 different books I read in a month! I haven't read that many so quickly since I was 17 and spent the summer on a lawn chair in the back yard with a constantly changing stack of books next to me--I read over 100 books in 3 months and got the best sun tan of my life (this was back when you wanted sun)!!
I did not keep a list of books & will have to go back so I can credit my source of inspiration, but it was strip pieced leaves for a pillow. I am making leaves (from memory). Mine will be a door quilt (thin and long to hang on my basement door). I'm stumped by background fabric right now... not sure which shows off the leaf fabrics best. Here's my finalists:

The Japanese cotton is beautiful, but it dulls out the color in the leaves. The linen works, but I need 5 yards for another project and only found 3-3/4 so far (it may not make it to the intended project if I can't find more). I'm leaning toward the mossy green because the leaf fabrics pop on it, but am hesitating because I just used it on my Snow Moon quilt.
Is it acceptable to use the same background fabric for different quilts? And the Snow Moon quilt is only the finished top right now, and it's pulling my mind towards doing more with it--adding to it or doing a series, which means I'll need all this background fabric just in case.
Decisions have to be made before I move toward on either quilt right now!

It's after Noon now on a rainy day and I feel the pull of my sewing machine. Off to put together some blocks!
