Valentine's Day is past? It was 2 weeks away just yesterday, right? Lol--February is flying by and I am keeping busy!
Valentine's Quilt
I made my Heart quilt last year as a FMQ practice project and thought it would be fun to hang it this year. Not the greatest of my work, but looking at it with time in between, I like it more than I did when I finished it (This picture is comically askew!!). I liked the last Heart quilt better, but I haven't seen it in years. Where is that quilt?
My daughter is off at college and her bed is not being used. I had recently photographed then laid out all my quilts flat on the bed, smoothed out and lovely. Too many I hadn't seen in years. Including my last Heart quilt... and I still had no idea where it could be! I even texted my kids to see if they remembered my selling it or giving it away. I spent 2 days with it on my mind, occasionally rummaging through a linen closet or cabinet that I hadn't tried yet.
I gave up. I had spent many good hours on it (needle-turn applique and machine- and hand-quilting), but thought it was gone so I decided to start a new quilt to take my mind off losing that one. Of course, as soon as I give up I find it folded up in a stack of fabrics! The pattern is 'Summer Love' by Nancy Graves. Her quilt is bed-sized--I made a 4-block version. So glad I found it!

Quiltcon2019
I spent time on Instagram this morning seeing who's quilts won what prizes at QuiltCon. Best of Show went to a group quilt, Smile, by Bee Sewcial. They are a group of 10 quilters and the quilt is an improv beauty.
One of my favorites won a third place: Modern Times by Jenny Haynes. Its quirky and fun. More should post today.
Congratulations to you all!
All those beautiful quilts in one place... know that I would love to see it! One of these years I'll get there!

Hand-piecing QAL: week 5
Five blocks down, 4 to go! We're more than half-way done with this project. I'm still sewing along with Patty of Elm Street Quilts and Kristin of Simply Everyday Handmade in their Hand-Pieced QAL.
I was watching PBS's "Victoria" while sewing block 5. And my sewing had me as frustrated as Albert had Victoria these last 2 episodes!
I cut my fabric and separated the pieces into the groups for HSTs and QSTs. I marked the pieces and began to sew. The HSTs were first, then the quarter-square parts. As I finished the first half of the QSTs, I took everything to the iron to press. And this is what I had: lovely little HSTs!

It was only 8 seams, so I put those into my scrap bin and cut new QST pieces. This time I got it right and after pressing them (with lovely swirled seams) I took them to my cutting board to trim. And they were too small.
Twice. I got it wrong twice! I blame Albert for not being more understanding of Victoria's tribulations with her sister and Country. Again into my scrap bin.
For a second, I thought of chucking it. But I still had an hour before I had to start making dinner, so I cut a third set of QST pieces--this time I made the squares bigger at 3-1/2 inches--and started again. And it was worth it because my QSTs were the right size and all the parts fit. Block 5 was complete!

One Monthly Goal
I still have to finish my February OMG and I have 7 days for it. Two quilts are quilted and I've started the third, plus I am not scheduled to work for a couple days. I think I can get it done!
